Yanbin and I love “A Bite of China”, a documentary series on Chinese food. The one we watched today was specifically on how Chinese people prepare food for the lunar new year.
So far, it has two seasons, 7 episodes each. The first season focuses more on how Chinese foods are made — from the icy north to the warm south, foods are made very differently. The second episodes focuses on stories behind food, especially on people who make the food.
I’m very impressed by the quality of this documentary series. It’s one of the best among the Chinese documentaries I’ve watched. It tells great stories from the perspective of food makers; it tells you why the foods are made in the way they are; it’s very artsy and has perfect shots for the food details.
I remember those days that my friend and I had to eat something as we watched it, because it really made us feel hungry.
If you are a foodie, or just someone loves learning a bit about Chinese food, watch it. You’ll know what authentic Chinese foods are.
